“Berwick Retirement Communities has felt like my family since Day 1”
Before joining the team at Berwick Royal Oak, Marco Gonzales worked in Housekeeping at Bear Mountain Resort for a decade. At Berwick, Marco finds there is a strong family dynamic – you’re apart of the team, quite unlike any other role Marco has taken on in his community before. Upon making the move to Berwick Retirement Communities, he has observed that the team were very friendly, open, and accommodating.
Berwick Royal Oak is home to many interesting residents, as Marco says, “Knowing the residents’ lives and stories is the most rewarding part of my position here.” ‘The Berwick Way’ is a key part of what Marco has contributed immensely to his community, alongside fellow team members, and residents. Marco has been a proud member of the Berwick team in a leadership role as Housekeeping Manager for 7 years.Berwick encourages work-life balance and since joining the Berwick Retirement Communities team, Marco has faced new challenges and opportunities to make meaningful contributions to his community. In Marco’s own words, “Every day is a new beginning, knowing that I can make a difference to someone.”
Marco has had the privilege to engage with Gordon Denford, our founder, and learn about his life and commitment to building such an amazing community. Berwick Retirement Communities has taught Marco that work does not have to be work and work alone – it is a real community for team members and residents – “It has taught me patience, gratitude, and to see life differently…Every day is a new beginning knowing that I can make a difference to someone.”
At Berwick Retirement Communities, there is a personal aspect to the job, quite unlike anything Marco has experienced before in the hospitality industry. At Berwick Royal Oak, there is a resident who Marco is especially fond of. Since his first meeting with her, and through many subsequent conversations and colourful stories, Marco has come to learn so much about her amazing life. He has made so many personal connections with team members and residents. As Marco says, “People know my name, they talk to me on the job”. In this regard, Berwick Retirement Communities owner Chris Denford is no exception – having had a key influence over Marco’s enjoyment of his role as Housekeeping Manager – “Chris Denford takes the time to smile, to get to know you as well as Gordon did.”
