Louise is not Berwick Parksville’s oldest resident, but she is the matriarch of five generations, and one granddaughter and one great granddaughter also work at Berwick Parksville!
Born in Winnipeg, 89-year-old Louise, moved into Berwick Parksville, on October 28th, 2022. She loves jewellery and always colour coordinates this with her clothing. We joke that she is the Amazon queen, for all the parcels that are delivered.
Leaving school in Grade 10, Louise often beats us all at Trivia or Scattergories! She was into track and field as a child and has a lifelong interest in theatre, playing a mouse in Grade 1! She went on to play numerous other roles in community theatre in Victoria and Squamish and we are still hoping she will join Parksville Players.
Louise was Church Librarian for thirty years and was also secretary for Provincial and Municipal Government.
Widowed at 29, with six children, two of whom are now deceased, she met her second husband, Dave, who was a Petty Officer Submarines for thirteen years. They first met at a dance, though she didn’t notice him. However, he told her brother-in-law that he liked the swing in her backyard! Having asked about taking her on a date, the first time they met was a blind date. Married a year later, Dave took on caring for Louise’s kids.
Now Louise has four surviving children, eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Of the great greats, there are five boys and one girl.
If you are visiting or living in Berwick Parksville, check out the display case. Louise is part of the team that decides monthly on content, writes some of the same, and provides most of the decorations. Some of the toys/stuffed animals she purchases and passes on to the great, great grandchildren.
